What is
the BRICS Marathon League?
The BRICS Marathon League is a project that unites the largest marathons in Russia (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan) and in the near future, aims to include marathons from BRICS union countries. These marathons are distinguished by a high level of competition organization, a strong athletic component and an emphasis on cultural and tourism exchange. The creation of the League has been approved by the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation.


The first step is the creation of the Russian Marathon League. This is a union of the three largest marathon competitions in Russia for professionals and amateurs. To become a participant the BRICS Marathon League, you need to run at least two marathon distances (42.2 km). Participate in the Kazan Marathon, the White Nights Marathon in St. Petersburg, and the Moscow Marathon – travel, gain new running experiences, and receive special trophies from the competitions.

Russian Marathon League
The Russian Marathon League is the first step towards uniting marathons from BRICS countries.
Run in Kazan, St. Petersburg, and Moscow to enjoy routes through the historic parts of the cities, receive special awards, and gain experience participating in world-class competitions.
Kazan Marathon was revived in 2015 and has since become one of the largest athletics competitions in Russia. The event includes races at distances from 3 km to 42.2 km, as well as races for children.

An additional motivation for achieving better results among both amateurs and professionals will be the ranking system.
Amateurs
  • Ranking based on the results of the two best marathons by total finish time for the year — we will award the top three men and women.
  • Ranking age categories (within the overall ranking based on the results of the two best marathons) — we will award one winner among men and women in each age group:
Men: 18−19, 20−22, 23−29, 30−34, 35−39, 40−44, 45−49, 50−54, 55−59, 60−64, 65−69, 70−74, 75−79, 80 and older;
Women: 18−19, 20−22, 23−29, 30−34, 35−39, 40−44, 45−49, 50−54, 55−59, 60−64, 65−69, 70−74, 75−79, 80 and older.

  • Separate awards for the fastest marathoners who exceed a certain finish time threshold.

SberPrime Kazan Marathon was revived in 2015 and has since become one of the most significant track and field competitions in Russia. The event includes races from 3 km to 42.2 km, as well as children's races.

The marathon route passes through Kazan's most significant landmarks – the Kazan Kremlin with its elegant Qolşärif Mosque and Söyembikä Tower, the embankment along the Kazanka River, the Palace of Water Sports and the Kazan Family Center, the Pyramid Entertainment Complex, Lake Kaban, the Old Tatar Settlement, the Millennium Bridge, the Kazan Kremlin Embankment, the Kazan Circus, and much more.
The 11th Kazan Marathon took place on May 3-4, 2025.

A legendary sports event in Russia's cultural capital, whose main feature is an evening start. This gives participants a unique opportunity to complete the distance, which is laid through the historical center of St. Petersburg during the mystical period of white nights. This is how the marathon was conceived back in 1990.

Participants will see views of Kazan Cathedral, Peter and Paul Fortress, Rostral Columns, the Admiralty, and St. Isaac's Cathedral. The updated route and the consistently beloved city will be an ideal combination for a new running adventure.
On July 5, 2025, the White Nights Marathon will be held for the 34th time. Runners will start on the 10 km, 42.2 km, and relay distances. The route will begin near "Gazprom Arena" and finish at Palace Square. The updated course and the consistently beloved city will be an ideal combination for a new running adventure.

The country's main marathon and Russia's most popular race. The race under the Moscow Marathon brand started in 2013 with the support of the Moscow Government and the Department of Sport and Tourism of Moscow; at that time, about 5,000 people participated. In 2023, the 10th Moscow Marathon took place, with over 29,000 people at the start.

The marathon route passes through the center of the capital: along the Moscow River embankments, along the Garden Ring and Boulevard Ring, across the Crimean Bridge, along Tverskaya Street and Teatralny Proezd, under the Kremlin walls. Participants will see world-famous city landmarks, including Stalin's skyscrapers, the Bolshoi Theatre, the FSB building, the Polytechnic Museum, the Kremlin, and the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.

Runners can choose between two distances – 10 km and 42.2 km. The competition will also include corporate and student relays. In 2025, participants can expect an updated linear route for the Moscow Marathon. The start and finish of the race will be in different locations. The race will begin at University Square of Lomonosov Moscow State University and conclude on the territory of the Luzhniki Olympic Complex. (The route may be subject to change.)
